This series contains statistical population reports submitted to the Department of Social Welfare by state youth facilities. Included are Weekly Population Reports, providing daily counts of children in the institution next hit, and Monthly Statistical Reports of Children Under Care. Some monthly reports include number of admissions, discharges, and total children at the institution. Others contain detailed statistical breakdowns by type of intake or discharge, by whereabouts if paroled or absent, and by departmental regional district of origin.

The Thomas Asylum for Orphan and Destitute Indian Children was incorporated as a private institution receiving some state aid in 1855 (Chapter 233).
